"Over the last 20+ years, I’ve had the opportunity to dive in some amazing places, from wrecks in the Great Lakes and Newfoundland, to the highly decorated caves in the Mexico, colorful Caribbean reefs, and many more. However, as amazing as those places are, I still come back to my New England cold water diving roots. The Arctic, and hopefully soon the Antarctic seemed like a logical next step. The idea of exploring sites, never dove before, with animals that may never have seen a diver before was too much to resist. This trip was also a great test for my BlueHeat drysuit insulation system. Over the past 2 years, it’s made long decompression hangs more tolerable but I had not used it on shallow dives. However, with water temps in the mid 30s, it was essential to keeping me and my hands warm enough to continue shooting well past the point that I could with conventional undergarments. From the minute we landed in Longyearbean, Faith and Oceanwide Expeditions did not disappoint. From the first-class accommodations to the impressive wildlife encounters with Polar Bears, Walruses, Whales, and more, this team had it covered. With only a week, we barely had a chance to scratch the surface of what the Arctic has to offer. I know I’ll be back again in the future."
